Academic and Professional Experience

Academic Work

I have dedicated all my professional life to teaching activities delivered in Spanish. As a professor, I was mostly dedicated to teach and create writing and business communication courses. I enriched my academic experience when I had the opportunity to design and instruct the first online courses offered by our department. I also offered a Spanish Syntax course which was a requirement for a graduate degree in translation.

After retirement, I was requested to participate in additional academic activities and to prepare and taught a course about Spanish syntax applied to the process of revising documents. That course was a requirement for a certification offered by the Continuing Education Division at the Río Piedras Campus of the University of Puerto Rico.

On 2017 I revised and actualized a Spanish textbook that I wrote to teach one of the business communication courses. To fulfill this task, I had to update the content knowledge about communication and technology, and also the appropriate usage of Spanish language style and grammar. Because I’m accustomed to be a doer and an independent worker, I delivered to the publishing house a complete version of the book with all tables, pictures, charts and other graphical resources prepared by myself.

Consultant Experience

As I performed my academic work, I provided my services to Publicaciones Puertorriqueñas.  For this publishing house, I did a lot of proofreading and copy-editing work. Sometimes, I also offered these services to academic peers and other people.

Before I retired, I was contracted by the Office of the Comptroller of Puerto Rico to serve as their Spanish Writing Consultant. That was a very enriching experience, sharing knowledge in a working place guided by high quality standards. There I had the opportunity to increase my expertise with technical publications, to maintain updated my knowledge and to continue applying my technological skills.
